Wines of South Africa Celebrate Nelson Mandela Day in Ghana & Nigeria
In celebration of South Africa’s icon birthday “Dr Nelson Mandela”. Wines of South Africa embarked on a West Africa Tour joined by 24 winemakers and marketers and kicked started the tour in Accra, Ghana on the 17th July at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel with presentation of an introductory South African Wine Course to 40 attending delegrates from trade comprising of food & beverage managers of hotels, restaurants, retailers, importers, distributors and representatives of South African wine brands that are in the Ghanaian market. Each delegate was awarded a Certificate of attendance and we are now proud to say we have 40 new South African Wine Ambassador who can help seed their knowledge in the marketplace.
The wine course was followed by a Business to Business match making session where producers were introduced to trade. The objective of this session was to explore opportunities to for new trading partnerships in order to import new brands. This session was followed in the evening by the main Wine Exhibition.
The exhibition was well attended by over 350 guests comprising of trade comprising of importers, distributors, restaurateurs, hotels, government officials, media and consumers. Brands that we presented were Origin Wines, DGB, Linton Park Wines, La Ric Mal Wines, Cape Dreams, Van Loveren, Lathitha Wines, Vinimark Brands, Mhudi Wines , Cape Diamond Wine, Ken Forrester, Paul Cluver, MAN Vintners, Jordan Wine, DGB, Noble Hills Estate, Rainbow End Wine Estate, Sesfikile Wines Robinson & Sinclair and Tamasa Wines.
The tour moved onto Lagos Nigeria the next day – Saturday 18th July - following the same format as in Accra, Ghana with an introductory South African Wine course, Business to Business session and Wine Exhibition The events were held at the Federal Palace Hotel and proved as successful as the previous days events.
WOSA partnered with South African Commissions in both markets, South African Airways and Sun International in a collective positioning of Brand South Africa. A partnership with as proved successful in other countries in Africa.
Both Ghana & Nigeria are geographically positioned to services the West Africa markets and this was evident when the show registered importers who travelled from Ivory Coast to meet producers to discuss opportunity to import wine to their market.
We had positive feedback from exhibitors who are confident that this is the perfect time to grow South African Wine with consumers in West Africa as they are ready to explore and experience our world class quality, different wine styles across a spectrum of price points.
